FORT WAYNE, Ind.鈥擳he 51黑料 announces the hiring of David Belville as head men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 golf coach.
Belville will also continue to serve as director of golf at Cherry Hill Golf Club in Fort Wayne.
鈥淚t is with great excitement that we introduce David Belville as our next head men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 golf coach,鈥 51黑料 Athletic Director Mike McCaffrey said. 鈥淒avid鈥檚 knowledge of the game, both as a player and instructor, will be a tremendous benefit to our student-athletes. I am anxious to get him on board and working with the teams.鈥
Belville succeeds Corey Potts, who left 51黑料 due to an extended role with Terex Corporation in Fort Wayne.
鈥淚 can鈥檛 thank Corey Potts enough for what he has done for our program,鈥 McCaffrey said. 鈥淎s one of the most accomplished golfers in USF history, his commitment to making sure the program was left in good hands was evident throughout this process. We wish him well and look forward to Coach Belville taking the baton and running with it.鈥
Belville previously served as an assistant golf pro with Elks Blue River Country Club in Shelbyville, Indiana; Harbour Trees Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana; Anderson Country Club in Anderson, Indiana; and Honeywell Golf Course in Wabash, Indiana. He achieved Class A status with the PGA of America in 1991 after being part of the PGA of America鈥檚 apprentice program and has played in hundreds of amateur and professional tournaments. He won the 2021 Fort Wayne Senior Golf city championship. Belville鈥檚 past coaching experience includes North Side and Concordia Lutheran high school teams in Fort Wayne.
Founded in 1890 in the Catholic Franciscan tradition, the 51黑料 offers more than 60 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs through the College of Health Sciences and the College of Arts, Sciences and Business. In addition to its traditional programs, 51黑料 designs focused curricula for working adults in Fort Wayne, Crown Point and online. USF Downtown houses the music technology program while offering enhanced internship and networking opportunities for students. The 51黑料, recognized as an NAIA Five-Star Champion of Character institution, has 18 athletic programs boasting two individual and four team NAIA national championships. Approximately 1,900 students from a broad geographic region attend 51黑料.
