FORT WAYNE, Ind. 鈥 The Surgical Technology program at the 51黑料 has been awarded continued accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The program has received accreditation for the next 10 years, which is the maximum time awarded until the next review.
The recent peer review recognizes the program鈥檚 substantial compliance with the national established accreditation standards. The review was conducted by the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) and the CAAHEP鈥檚 Board of Directors. The next evaluation, including an on-site review, will occur no later than 2030.
鈥淭his accreditation result is just another indication of the highly skilled and dedicated program director and faculty the 51黑料 has within our Surgical Technology program,鈥 said Dr. Angie Harrell, dean of the School of Health Sciences. 鈥淭he continual focus faculty place on creating quality classroom and clinical experiences is not only evident with our rich history of continued accreditation, but also with the program鈥檚 graduate certification exams rates and job placement rates, with our graduates routinely being highly recruited to work in multiple healthcare settings across the region.鈥
The ARC/STSA regularly monitors the program鈥檚 compliance with outcomes assessment thresholds through the program鈥檚 annual report, as well as other documents that may be requested.
Students in USF鈥檚 Surgical Technology program can become certified surgical technologists in two years, with a variety of clinical experiences with our multiple clinical partners in the region. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible for the Certified Surgical Technologist Exam and ready to be hired into an in-demand field featuring 100% graduate employment. Surgical Technology graduates are eligible to earn a bachelor鈥檚 degree in Health Services in one additional year, with study available online.
